The Business
U.S. operations of a multi-national software company

The Need
The company is filled with people who are brilliant at resolving computer software challenges, but not as adept at resolving interpersonal or emotional issues. The HR Director wanted to incorporate Emotional Intelligence into the company’s training and development initiatives to foster greater self-awareness among employees in leadership positions.

The Response
The HR Director enrolled in an Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQi) Training Class conducted by Master Trainer Jim Kimberly of Sapphire Consulting (Jim is one of 13 Certified Train the Trainers in the US). In the class, she learned to administer the EQi® assessment, the premier scientific measure of self-report social emotional intelligence. The EQi® assessment measures one's self-reported potential to deal with daily environmental demands and pressures, and helps predict one's success in both professional and personal pursuits.

The Outcome
The HR Director completed an intensive two-day training class in EQi® and plans to conduct a series of in-house educational sessions on the assessment and how it can be used to improve leadership skills. The assessments will be conducted on a voluntary basis with company employees.
